ABOUT
Shannon Argo, M.S. SLP-CCC
Hey there, I'm Shannon! I graduated from the University of Florida in 2019 with a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and from the University of Tennessee with a Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology in 2021.
I began working in as an SLP in 2021 in the school and clinic setting, working with children from ages 1-21 years old. Currently, I work full time at PEER Academy and see private clients after-school.
I am a practitioner in training for Spelling to Communicate with an end goal of receiving my certification in March 2025. Spelling to Communicate is a great option for students who typical high tech AAC has not been adequate in expressing their true thoughts. Contact me to learn more!
I am passionate about helping all kids find their voice in any modality! I believe in a collaborative, family-centered approach and strive to ensure that all of my patients are given the tools they need to succeed.
SPECIALTIES
AAC and Gestalt Language Processors
I have found a love and gift for working with clients who utilize Alternative and Augmentative communication (AAC). I have programmed and worked with various device companies/apps to help my clients access their voice. I can help your family through the process of finding a device that matches your child's specific needs, program the AAC device, provide therapy to help the child learn the device, and train parents/caregivers on how to use AAC in their natural environment.
I love using a child-centered approach to working with autistic children specifically ones who script or are gestalt language processors. Does your child communicate through long scripts (from tv show, movies, people around them) or echolalia, have rich intonation, utilize strings of unintelligible speech, or are stuck in single words? Your child might be a gestalt language processor and I would love to help change up the type of therapy they are receiving to help their communication grow!
